On behalf of the International Koshiki Karate Federation, All-Japan Koshiki Karate Federation & Organising Committee we are very happy to invite you to participate in the 3rd IKKF World Koshiki Karate Open Championship 2024.

CHAPTER 1 «INDIVIDUAL KUMITE / Age & Weight categories»

6-7 years

  • Male, weight: 20, 25 kg & absolute weight*
  • Female, weight: 20, 25 kg & absolute weight*

8-9 years

  • Male, weight: 25, 30 kg & absolute weight*
  • Female, weight: 25, 30 kg & absolute weight*

10-11 years

  • Male, weight: 35, 40 kg & absolute weight*
  • Female, weight: 30, 40 kg & absolute weight*

12-13 years

  • Male, weight: 45, 50 kg & absolute weight*
  • Female, weight: 35, 45 kg & absolute weight*

14-15 years

CHAPTER 2 «TEAM KUMITE / Age & Weight categories»

Team Male

  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 6-7, 8-9 & 10-11 years / Absolute weight
  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 12-13, 14-15 & 16-17 years / Absolute weight
  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 18 years and above / 70, 80 kg & Absolute weight

Team Female

  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 6-7, 8-9 & 10-11 years / Absolute weight
  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 12-13, 14-15 & 16-17 years / Absolute weight
  • 3 athletes per 1 team: 18 years and above / Absolute weight

 

CHAPTER 3 «KUMITE RULES»

3.1. Permitted Technique

  • Hand Punch to the Upper Level (helmet): 1 point  
  • Hand Punch to the Middle Level (body protector): 1 point
  • High Kick by Leg: 2 points
  • Middle Kick by Leg: 1 point
  • Middle Punch by Elbow: 1 point
  • Middle Kick by Knee: 1 point
  • Non or light contact to the fallen opponent: 1 point
  • Non-contact demonstration of a hit to the area unprotected by equipment (back, nape): 1 point
  • Effective hits within one combination or attack: are summed up 
  • 5-point difference: Ippon (clear victory)
  • Single «mawashi-gedan» (low-kick) with / without continuing the attack:

- with continuing the attack: No points

- without continuing the attack: Prohibited

  • Knockout or knockdown: Ippon (clear victory)

 

3.2. Prohibited Technique

  • Hits to the genitalia, nape, neck, back, joints, etc.
  • Hits by knee or elbow to the upper level. 
  • Hugs of the opponent protective equipment. 
  • Throwing technique in which the opponent is lifted above the waist. 

 

3.3. Fight Time

  • Children and youths under 15 years old – 2 minutes «clear time» (excluding time stops, except for forced long breaks, for example, for a doctor's examination or referee meetings).
  • Juniors 16-17 years old, veterans – 3 minutes «clear time» (excluding time stops).
  • Adults over 18 years old – 3 minutes «clear time» (excluding time stops).

Remarks:

- Time stops at the command of the Central Referee for the time of the referee's meetings, medical assistance and forced breaks.

- In case of a draw, «Enchosen» is announced the 1st extra minute. 

- In case of a second draw, «Sai Enchosen» is announced – the 2nd additional minute.

- In case of a draw in a fight the winner is determined by the referee decision of «Hantei» based on the results of the entire fight. Important notice: without referee`s meeting.

 

3.4. Warnings & Disqualification

  • «Keikoku» – verbal warning with no points scoring. 
  • «Hansoku Chui» – warning with 1 point to the opponent. 
  • «Hansoku» – disqualification.  

Remarks:

- Could be implemented in case of execution of the prohibited technique, bickering with judges, non-sport behavior, intentional delay of the fight, simulation of injury, etc.                        

- After the announcement of disqualification, the Central Referee will remove the athlete from tatami with the command «Shikkaku».

- The athlete will be disqualified after receiving a second «Hansoku Chui» (regardless of the type of rule violation).

 

  • «Jogai» – going beyond the tatami with 1 point scoring to the opponent. 

Remarks:

- Starting from the 1st exit of the tatami.

- Number of exits outside the tatami is not limited.

- Technique behind the «Jogai» line is not scored and no points are awarded.

 

3.5. Medical Assistance

  • The allowed time for the medical assistance is not more than 2 minutes (from the moment the doctor begins to provide assistance). 

Remarks:

- If an athlete does not appear on the sports ground at the set time, his disqualification must follow.

- If an athlete was unable to continue the fight, having received an injury through the fault of an opponent who used a prohibited technique, both athletes must be disqualified from the competition.

- Only Central Referee has the right to disqualify an athlete (in case of injury or other medical indications and only upon the conclusion of a doctor), or at the request of the team chief.

 

3.6. Team Kumite

  • Conducted according to the formula of 3 athletes in one team, in accordance with the Regulations or decision of the Chief Referee Board.
  • In case of a draw following the results of a fight between the athletes, a draw is recorded, no extra time is assigned.
  • In case of a draw in the team fight, the points scored by the athletes in each fight are summed up to determine the winner.
  • In case of a draw of a team match and the same amount of points scored by the teams, an additional fight is assigned, in which the athletes re-participate, whose fight ended in a draw.

 

3.7. Protective Equipment & Athlete`s Uniform 

  • Obligatory for all age categories: kimono (white color), helmet (white color), body protector (red & blue color), groin guard under kimono & arm pads (white color).
  • As an option for all age categories: mouth guard & leg pads (white color).
  • The Organising Committee will lend body protectors to the athletes.

Remarks:

- It is possible to use additional protective equipment on the recommendation of a doctor (in case of injury).

- In case of the absence of the mandatory elements of protective equipment (or discrepancy between the size of the body protector and the age of the athlete) and failure to eliminate this discrepancy within 2 minutes the athlete must be disqualified. If the athlete manages to eliminate the discrepancy within 2 minutes, then he enters the fight with 1 penalty point and starts the fight with a score of 0:1.

 

3.8. Overweight 

  • Overweight of not more than 200 grams is allowed. 
  • In case of overweight, the athlete can be transferred to the next weight category.

 

CHAPTER 4 «KATA / Age Categories & Rules»

4.1. Age Categories

  • Male: 6-7 years, 8-9 years, 10-11 years, 12-13 years, 14-15 years, 16-17 years, over 18 years old (Color belt), over 18 years old (Black belt)*
  • Female: 6-7 years, 8-9 years, 10-11 years, 12-13 years, 14-15 years, 16-17 years, over 18 years old (Color belt), over 18 years old (Black belt)*

*age categories can be changed according to the actual lists of athletes

 

4.2. Kata Rules

  • Timing for children and youths under 17 years old – 2 minutes to demonstrate Kata.
  • Timing for the athletes over 18 years old – 2 minutes to demonstrate Kata.
  • There are no restrictions on the type of Kata nor karate style (freestyle). The athlete can demonstrate the same Kata in the preliminaries and in the finals.
  • There is special Rule for classes over 18 years old Black belt only: in the preliminaries and in the finals must be demonstrated different Kata.
  • Competition method: 2 athletes are demonstrating Kata at the same time at the same tatami.
  • Winner determination: by the flags.

 

CHAPTER 5 «Application for the World Championship»

  • Participation fee for the World Championship: 4 000 Japanese yen for 1 person.
  • Deadline for participation in the World Championship: the deadline for participation is April 1, 2024.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot accept your application in case it was sent after the deadline.
  • Travel accident and injuries must be covered by the international insurance policy: we do not compensate in case of injury received by the athlete at the championship.

Group of Japanese karate masters under the guidance of BO HIDEO (future Minister of Finance of Japan) has begun the practice of full contact kumite using protective gear in Tokyo Imperial University. Foundation of a new direction of Japanese martial arts – “Karate in Armor", which was the predecessor of Koshiki Karate.

1st Championship of Japan under the rules of "Karate in Armor" was held.

Foundation of the All-Japan Koshiki Karate Federation (First President – MASAFUMI SUZUKI) and the 1st All-Japan Championship under the rules of Koshiki Karate was held.

Permitted technique
  • Hand Punch to the Upper Level (helmet): 1 point
  • Hand Punch to the Middle Level (body protector): 1 point
  • High Kick by Leg3 points

  • Sweep or throwing with the hit (non-contact), no more than 5 secfor the technique execution: 2 points
  • Non-contact demonstration of a hit to the area unprotected by equipment (back, nape): 1 point
  • Effective hits within one combination or attack: are summed up
  • More than 5 unanswered points within 1 attack or upon reaching a 10-point difference during the fight: «Renzoku waza ippon» (clear victory for a clear advantage)
  • Submissive technique, no more than 10 sec. for the technique execution: «Ippon» (clear victory)
  • Knockout or knockdown: «Ippon» (clear victory)
Prohibited technique
  • Hits to the genitalia, nape, neck, back, joints, etc
  • Hits by knee or elbow to the upper level
  • Hugs of the opponent equipment
  • Single «mawashi-gedan» (low-kicks) without continuing the attack
  • Dangerous, traumatic throws such as "mill", "deflection", etc
Warnings & Disqualifications
  • «Mubobi-chui» – verbal warning with no points scoring
  • «Hansoku-chui» – warning with 1 point to the opponent
  • «Hansoku» – disqualification. Could be implemented in case of execution of the prohibited technique, bickering with judges, non-sport behavior, intentional delay of the fight, etc. After the announcement of disqualification, the Center Referee will remove the athlete from the tatami with the command "Shikkaku". The athlete will be disqualified if he receives a second    Hansoku-chui (regardless of the type of rule violation)
